The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program is part of the Ministry of Education’s Student Success initiative in Ontario. It was introduced to provide specialized programs in specific Ministry-identified sectors, helping to support the success of all students across the province. Ontario secondary schools now offer expanded programs designed to cater to students’ individual learning styles and interests. These options include Dual Credits, SHSM, and Cooperative Education. Together, these programs aim to engage students more effectively in their learning and better prepare them for graduation, as well as the transition to post-secondary education and the workforce.
Students enrolled in an SHSM designation gain hands-on experience through cooperative education and experiential learning placements within the community. By completing an SHSM designation, students can leave high school confident that they are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and industry-recognized qualifications sought by employers and post-secondary institutions. Niagara Catholic is proud to collaborate with many local businesses and organizations in the Niagara Region, offering our students valuable opportunities to gain practical experience and expertise in their chosen career fields.
If we want to include the graphic from the current SHSM page I need the pdf.
