Caleb Bahati is a quick study.

Despite only starting to train in long jump at the high school level five weeks ago, the Grade 10 student at Saint Paul won the junior boys event Thursday at the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association meet with a leap of 6.15 metres.

Bahati’s success comes as no surprise to Saint Paul coach Chris Hladich.

“I coached Caleb in junior boys basketball and he’s an outstanding athlete. He flys through the air and he could dunk in Grade 9, but he didn’t show interest in track and field at all.”
