
Saint Paul’s Myles Quinton and Virginia Gates made it two straight golds Sunday at the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association championships.
For the second consecutive year, the dynamic duo won the mixed doubles event at Schoolboy.
It was Gates fifth Schoolboy medal of her career while Quinton recorded his third.
Sunday’s victory was anything but a sure thing.The E.L.Crossley crew of Andrew Gibson and Chloe Boisvenue gave the Saint Paul double a stiff challenge in the heats and had a similar time racing in different semifinals.
“Going into this race, we didn’t know what it was going to look like and if we were going to be really close and if it was going to be a dogfight at the end but we really pulled through this race” Gates said. “I think it was motivation that we had already won last year and we wanted to win again. We are both seniors now so this is our last Schoolboy ever.”
Gates went into her final high school season with the goal of putting her best foot forward.
