Patriots set bar high for OFSAA

Niagara Falls ReviewThe Saint Paul Patriots have high hopes once again at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) AA boys soccer championships June 6-8 in North Bay.

The defending champion Patriots enter OFSAA as the No. 1 seed, but coach Aldo Seca said the ranking can be a mixed blessing.

“It’s an honour to be ranked No. 1 but at the end of the day we know the seeding doesn’t mean much,” Seca said. “You have that bullseye on your back, everyone is looking to take down No. 1”

Seca knows the road to gold isn’t always an easy drive..

Saint Paul students hosting monthlong fundraiser to support new Niagara Falls hospital

Niagara Falls ReviewA civics/careers class at Saint Paul Catholic High School is doing its part to support the new hospital being built in Niagara Falls.

Teacher Sheila DeLuca said her Grade 10 class has been hosting a monthlong fundraiser for Niagara Health Foundation.

DeLuca, who’s also a board member of the foundation, said her class of 55 students has been learning about the role of different governments, as well as the hospital under construction at Montrose and Biggar roads.

Hurdling his way to the top

BP Sports NiagaraEvan Blake has quickly established himself as one of the best young hurdlers in the province.

The 14-year-old, Grade 9 student at Saint Paul Catholic High School picked up hurdles just two years ago and already has the fifth fastest time in the province in the junior boys 300-metre event.

“We’ve had him in our club for four years. He started when he was in Grade 5 and is someone who has continued to evolve,” Thorold Elite Track Club head coach Steve Fife said. “The 300 metres is definitely going to be his major event.”

Patriots cheer their way to victory

By Bill Potrecz: BP Sports Niagara - April 18, 2024

BPSN 11082023 SPCHSSThe Saint Paul Patriots made it two championships in a row, placing first at the South Region cheerleading finals at Notre Dame earlier this month.

The finals are sanctioned by (OFSAA) Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations. Banners are awarded to the winners as opposed to medals which are given out at OFSSA events.

The Patriots, who captured first place at a world competition at Disney a few years ago under coach Jennifer Benoit, placed first out of eight teams and recorded the highest score of all competitors from the three regional finals.
